In line with our Hannibal series, we wanted to share the work of Travis Bedel. Bedel's art shares a carnal beauty with Hannibal –– art from flesh. He collages anatomical drawings with botanical illustrations from textbooks to make elegant yet macabre illustrations.
Humanity has been socialized to see itself as somewhat divorced from nature, as if humanity does not share a common story with the rest of the natural world. Pieces like this, which blend the human-anatomical with the plant-anatomical, gives us an aspect of nature we don’t always want to see, even if they are the parts which make us who we are.
This artist was also an inspiration for the third part of our Hannibal series which features a layout done with floral detail and bones.
